Re: Space, The Final Frontier

Sorry to see that Bruce McCandless has passed ... http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-42465059 I interviewed him at Houston when he returned from his historic 'jetpack flight'. He didn't make a fuss of it, even though he'd put in a huge amount of work to develop the kit. He'd waited a long, lo...

Re: Space, The Final Frontier

Presidential proclamations of intent to stage missions to the Moon - and Mars, for that matter - are best taken with a pinch of salt, as they have a tendency to be purely for short-term political advantage. Several presidents past have made such announcements, but there's still no firm plan to go to...

Millions more - self included - will remember him as the quintessential all-ro...

Re: Pic of the Day

Brilliant seeing the 'floor-back-on' pic in POTD today! Easy for onlookers to take milestones for granted these days, but any way you look at it this is one of the biggies.

Congratulations on a mega-chore achieved!

Re: The Bloodhound SSC/Thrust/Noble Thread

It's absolutely terrific that the Bloodhound team have reached the point of running the car. A tribute to the sheer tenacity of Richard & Co.

History's been made, and it will only get more exciting from here.

Re: Space, The Final Frontier

The early-mission Shuttle astronauts continue to disappear along with those from previous programmes.

Paul Weitz, who had a long and distinguished career culminating in flying Challenger as Commander in 1983, has sadly passed:

Re: What have forum members been up to?

The BBC News website caught my eye this morning, reporting: "In 2015 a French court prevented a couple from naming their baby girl Nutella after the hazelnut spread, ruling that it would make her a laughing stock." Surely to God, it would only be a laughing stock if they'd named it Oxo. I'll get me ...
