Re: Richie's Little Tank

I agree, it was all a little too obviously stage managed but IMHO you are being a little harsh in some of your criticism of the tank itself. If JCB "weld, not rivet" then they probably no longer have the facilities do carry out something that isn't relevant to their core business. I'm sure the skill...

Re: Looking for opinions on an Autograph

I was interested in this item so I contacted the seller on eBay to ask if he had any authenticating evidence. This is a business seller with 100% positive feedback and I don't for a moment wish to suggest that he is knowingly attempting to pass a fake off as the real thing. He stated that he bought ...

Re: David Tremayne's Stay Gold

As I understand it, the UK record for terminal speed of a jet dragster is a smidgin over 336mph. That was achieved at Santa Pod, which is an awful lot shorter than Elvington.

Is the choccie sauce on internal panels just for corrosion protection ?
I was just about to ask the question: Why do you need sealant on that piece? More trouble than it's worth, surely?

I can't add anything to what's already been said, except that I can't wait to see that boat fulfil its potential.

Maybe Bill or Mike will confirm this but I can't help feeling that the curvature of the nose isn't quite right......

Re: The Vulcan XH558 & General Aviation Thread

Back in 2006, I was having an in-depth medical exam courtesy of a doctor who'd been involved in examining victims of the Kegworth crash. He told me that a high proportion of the victims he examined had been killed by glass duty-free booze bottles flying from the overhead lockers and striking them o...

Re: The Vulcan XH558 & General Aviation Thread

It's a long time since I read either report but my recollection is that the Kegworth crew were in a big hurry to get down and this clouded their problem solving process. If memory serves - and I'll look this up and read it tomorrow because this is my anoraky subject - the duff engine shed part of a...

Re: The Vulcan XH558 & General Aviation Thread

....humans will still find a way to scupper themselves even with a checklist. There was the Kegworth accident where, had they bothered to read it properly and not thrown their aircraft at the ground, they'd likely have picked up that they'd shut down the wrong engine. Not quite; if they had just go...

Re: The Vulcan XH558 & General Aviation Thread

Clearly it can happen even on modern commercial airliners. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vKo4Eee7V3s I had to google that one; they made a nice job of the landing. A pity about the popped circuit breaker which prevented the alternate landing gear system from working; some airline managers I know ...
