Re: The Australian Replica

Thanks for posting the oics Mike. There are two related websites for Lake Bonney and Lake Dumbleyung that both refer to the replica (reproduction??) and theer seem to be separate timetables for celebrating each location's anniversary. Presumably just the one K7 replica though. I always hoped that so...

50th Anniversary of DMC's "double"

Just a reminder that today - 17th July - is the 50th anniversary of Donald's World Land Speed Record wigth Bluebird CN7 at Lake Eyre. This event, and Donald's magnificent achievement in extremely difficlut circumstances, has remained a continual inspiration to me persoanlly throughout my life and, n...

Re: Other Speed Record Breakers Are Available!

The last time that Craig ran an LSR attempt as a driver was in 1996 at the Black Rock Desert of course and mu...

Re: Malcolm Campbell's 350 hp Sunbeam

Does the original actually still exist? Best ask the NMM about that. I am not sure when the alleged Albion gearbox was fitted or whether it came with the car from Ralph Aspden. It may have been fitted in its sand racing days but I have a vague memory of the current gearbox having been fitted by Bea...

Re: Malcolm Campbell's 350 hp Sunbeam

Ian!! Really!! It's not a Manitou!!! So wished I could have been there, bugger! Well, not quite-ish! Is it more correct to say that M Coatalen's sprint car was fitted with an engine based on the Manitou (which never entered production>??). In any event, this is a unique engine and all credit to eve...

Re: Malcolm Campbell's 350 hp Sunbeam

Thanks for the update. The car looks very good indeed - I checked YouTube for video but cannot see any there, so if you have any I am sure it would be enjoyed and appreciated by many. That engine must sound awesome! Several You Tube videos there now, including one from me from today. If this works,...

Re: Malcolm Campbell's 350 hp Sunbeam

Thanks for the heads-up on this event Rob. Beaulieu had it on their website, and it was on local media earlier today, so a very good turnout of enthusiasts - as well as a visiting school party - enjoyed the spectacle. Managed to delay a meeting in London to stop by (excellent reason)! The Sunbeam's ...

Re: Dead Metal

I am sure that many Forum members would like to add congratulations to Andy Middlehurst and his restoration team on their success in the Octane sponsored International Historic Motoring Awards for 2013. His magnificent and sympathetic restoration of the 1966 US Grand Prix winning Lotus 43/1 has been...

Re: Dead Metal

Another racing restoration that's made the headlines is the rebuild, by Lotus enthusiast Andy Middlehurst, of Jim Clark's Lotus 43 and the car has now been nominated for Restoration of the Year in the International Historic Motoring Awards sponsored by Octane Magazine. http://imageshack.us/a/img856/...

1935 Blue Bird shortlisted for Car of the Year

The International Historic Motoring Awards - a fairly "glitzy" affair I think you will agree - takes place on 14th November. All except one of the categories - designed to highlight collective and individual achievements in historic motoring and motorsport - are being judges by a distinguished panel...
