Re: What have forum members been up to?

Don't suppose you've any more shots of that Orph' do you? Hi Bill, The Orpheus is stuck at the back of a group of engines, including a Napier Sabre , that hide the display panels behind so not easy to get close to. The only other pic I took of it on Sunday is attached. http://imageshack.us/a/img692...

Re: What have forum members been up to?

Dropped in to Solent Sky - the Southampton Hall of Aviation - last weekend. Always a pleasure to visit and not least because the sole surviving Saunders Roe SRA/1 is on display there. One of the display panels gives due acknowledgement to the use of the Metropolitan Vickers Beryl in Bluebird K7 but ...

Re: Other Speed Record Breakers Are Available!

Although the National Motor Museum has not shouted it from the rooftops, following the car's display in the LSR "Beach" scene at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, Beaulieu is currently the temporary home for Sir Malcolm Campbell's Blue Bird of 1935. I went along t see it the other day. The Blue Bird i...

Re: Other Speed Record Breakers Are Available!

Just a heads-up for anyone that follows such matters, tomorrow, Friday 4th October, will be the 30th anniversary of Richard Noble and Thrust 2 setting a new World Land Speed Record of 633.468mph on the Black Rock Desert in Nevada in 1983. I was privileged to be part of the team that year. There is a...

Re: The Last run....

May we please discuss this topic 'We also explored the possibility of finding another steamboat, the Fairy Queen, in Esthwaite Water.' Any further information would be much appreciated. What's that all about then? Sorry Bill, just rediscovered this thread! The Fairy Queen was an early steamboat ori...

Re: Dead Metal

Very much alive metal here - and sounds glorious too! I went along to the National Motor Museum's "Rod and Custom Show" last weekend. Turned out not to be a fishing event after all. Neither fishing nor custom cars are really my scene but the quality of the work involved is amazing in most cases. One...

Re: What have forum members been up to?

Another Bluebird Café! Went to Calshot the other day - nice beach walks and always something to see coming or going on Southampton Water. Calshot was home to the RAF High Speed Flight and the base for the 1929 and 1931 Schneider Trophy races and with a new Air Speed Record being set there with the R...

Re: The Vulcan XH558 & General Aviation Thread

Looks like it's on now....

BBC News 24 are covering it live (as I'm writing this, it's Andy Murray...but, hey. don't let that put you off).

Best wishes to all

Re: Dead Metal

[quote="Renegadenemo"What was the controversy about?[/quote] I think it has been fairly mild, actually, but there was a feeling at the time the car was sold by Bonhams in 2011 that it had remained very original with only the rebuilding as a result of the Le Mans accident and its subsequent, mostly c...

Re: Dead Metal

In 2011, Bonhams auctioned the Austin-Healey 100S that had competed in the tragic 1955 Le Mans race and was partly the cause of the accident to Pierre Levegh's Merecdes-Benz 300 SLR. NOJ 393, one of the factory Special test cars , that had lain untouched for the previous 42 years has now had its res...
