Re: Pic of the Day

Might want to use one of your Oprh's for checking out your field based test bed. Don't want this to happen with the good one... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D9J91Iq52Bk&feature=related Oh, and talking of taking mug shots, I took this for a competition back in 2006... 57461953.IMG_1188copy[1].jpg

Re: Engineering Giants

Don't know about you, but I don't reckon those blades will withstand the combustion temperatures without melting. Could end up like a multi coloured chocolate fountain...

Re: Engineering Giants

Not too technical, but not too dumbed-down either. Mike - having been round the place some years ago, there were a few opportunuities that I would have liked to have seen included. Perhaps rather than going for the slightly sensationalist repair of toilets, coffee makers, seats and flight data reco...

Re: The Vulcan XH558 & General Aviation Thread

Bill - The only wisdom I can give you is that silica gel will melt at about the same temperature as your stainless steel crucible. Turbine gas temperature can be hotter than this as the blades are cooled, so interesting experiment, but you really need to use a real engine! Neither the Orph, nor the ...

Re: The Vulcan XH558 & General Aviation Thread

I feel an interesting experiment coming on. Suggest you find a few panels which need blasting, tell Checkie they will make excellent shields and get him to stand by the exhaust. I'm sure he'll go for it if we all say it'll be OK. Please let me know when you plan to run the test - I'll bring my vide...

Re: Pic of the Day

The sponsons are on the way and the systems are largely sorted too. Can you see a tiny glimmer at the end of the tunnel?
I do see a glimmer, but when will the engine be on the test bed???

Re: The Vulcan XH558 & General Aviation Thread

Bill, Sorry. Some of us have to work for a living and can't spend all day on bulletin boards  The bags used in the intake are not like those you get in the box with a new camera - more like the size of one of those neck cushions you see for sale a motorway services. However, as I've said befor...

Re: The Vulcan XH558 & General Aviation Thread

I bet Stuart knows already... ;) Actually my diagnosis was just that - I didn't have any inside gen. I too owe Robert a call but I figure he has one or two other things on his mind. We have been in touch with the Vulcan team's head of engineering, but they don't need any of our help right now - jus...
