Re: Nomadic, Titanic & other historic vessels

National Geographics 'Titanic - Case Closed' was, I thought, really impressive. Finally an apparently well researched and plausible theory to explain why they didn't see a whacking great big iceberg on a clear starry night until it was too late - and the theory also explained why the Californian's l...

Re: Guest Book.

It's not surprising. I run several sites and 2 or 3 still had guestbooks in place but had seen perhaps one or two signatories in the last year - the concept has just died a death now that many sites have forums or allow comments on individual pages (often via Facebook or other social media). The htm...

Is he selling copies or the original photo he bought? There's nothing wrong with the latter.

Re: BBP Diary

That'll be light in the opposite direction to what I was thinking of - say some LEDs around the edge of clear intake blanks so that they are hidden by the rubber (or whatever) edging and throw light back down towards the engine. Anyway, just a thought...

Lit from external sources but along the lines of what I mean:

Re: BBP Diary

Fascinating as always.

Just a thought on the intake blanks - wouldn't it be nice to have some made out of perspex, so once in place in the museum (with some cunningly mounted spotlamps), the engine face would be visible?

Re: SS Nomadic (& other historic vessels)

Even if we remember and accept that people who like machines might not like paintings, and that people who like paintings might not like machines, forty five million quid is a hell of a lot of cash for a picture!  Frankly I think it's a f***ing disgrace. What relevance to British hist...

Re: broken Barracuda Project

Lanc under-armed... well perhaps not. Bomber Command's own boffin types produced a report that admitted that defensive armament was such a waste of time in most circumstances that they would have been better off deleting the guns entirely, flying higher and faster and with fewer crew, and losing les...

Re: broken Barracuda Project

Yes, didn't we make a bomber that could carry the same bombload as a B-17? Out of wood? With two engines rather than four? With just two crew? That went faster than fighters? Somebody remind me...
