Re: Other Speed Record Breakers Are Available!

Is that all we have to do?

Well a 1.9 mile long runway may be a factor, unless you choose the beach option (and injesting sand) of 3 miles. I feel sure the team could lash something together with one or two engines. Next question ... who do you get to drive the 'lash up'?

Re: The Bloodhound SSC/Thrust/Noble Thread

Not sure if it's correct but someone online pointed out that all mention of Jaguar has been removed from the car and their website- but I guess sponsors come and go. The Geely cars are just for the South African attempt, if I read the statements made on Monday correctly. The Jaguar engine stays to ...

A modicum of common sense might halt the plan. If not there will be no one willing to organise an 'attempt'. Oh and to set a record speed with some relevance you have to go over 301 mph. :P

Re: Other Speed Record Breakers Are Available!

That said four wheels... how many does it have? Four or five? The reason for the team saying 'four' was because the Kitty O'Neil speed of 512mph in the rocket powered SMI Motivator was set by a three wheeled vehicle. Jessi went quicker than any of the female friends or wives who drove jet cars in t...

Re: Other Speed Record Breakers Are Available!

That thing has never sat right with me- taking the wings off an aircraft seems to be cheating somehow! You still have to fit wheels to the 'chassis' that the plane provides - five are used in the case of NAE and only the nose wheel is that fitted originally to the F-104. A number of British individ...

Re: Other Speed Record Breakers Are Available!

On a slightly different note, am I alone in thinking that it is time for the rule requiring two runs in opposire directions to be abolished, if only for the outright LSR? At the speeds involved these days, I would have thought that in any wind conditions under which it would be safe to make an atte...

Re: Other Speed Record Breakers Are Available!

In a roadcar setting your view, Mike, of electric vehicles could be shared by a vast majority, hence we mostly drive i.c. engined vehicles. However, when a vehicle sets a land speed record average speed, within 60 minutes, of 341.4 mph everyone should look on the endeavour as being meritorious ........

Re: The Extremely Off Topic 'Strictly Come Dancing' Thread

Mike, it is still summer and none of these latest names means anything to me. Could be a winter at the computer or head in a good book. [Did the model dance when she was five and will she beat all of the novices?}

Re: Pic of the Day

............... picture of a third engine.

Is this engine gathering so you can do an engine change at the side of Coniston Water during the proving trial just so the event looks like the 1966 speed trials? If so tell me which day.
