Re: 54 Years Ago - On This Day...

One day later, on 5th January 1967, pictures of the Bluebird jet boat, K7, were all over all the morning newspapers, with articles speculating on what caused the crash. A floating log was a strong favourite. Most people in the UK now had some idea what Bluebird K7 was and what it looked like - albei...

54 Years Ago - On This Day...

54 years ago, today, the BBC News was reporting that Donald Campbell had crashed in his Bluebird jetboat, on Lake Coniston. There was no further detail.

Re: Timing - How were DMC's Runs in K7 Timed....?

Now I know what to look for, I have found a picture of the Longines Chronocinegines, in 'With Campbell At Coniston' - see attached.

Looks to be during setting up..? The 2 boxes below, are yet to be opened & connected.

Re: Timing - How were DMC's Runs in K7 Timed....?

Seaerching on Google, using the word "Chronocinegines" found a few things, often using the exact words that @rob565uk used. Hmmm... But here is a picture of what I assume is the full Longines Chronocinegine set up: https://www.longines.com/uploads/history/1954-longines-first-quartz-clock-n...

Re: Timing - How were DMC's Runs in K7 Timed....?

@rob565uk and @Malcolm Ops - Thank you both. Great info. Just what I had hoped for. What you have both said seems to fit with the limited accounts and odd photos that are in the various books, etc. I had sort of suspected that the technology might be related to the Photo Finish used in Athletics &am...

Timing - How were DMC's Runs in K7 Timed....?

I would be interested in understanding more about how K7 was timed, during its runs on Coniston in '66/67. I believe than Longines were involved - and that their timing system involved synchronised stop watches and photographic film....? Can anyone explain further how this all worked...? I know that...

Re: Bute / Coniston Back to Back

What I find more intriguing is how declining fish and chips and a natter with the BBP team and going for what's happening now can be construed as the trustees' meeting their obligation to act in the best interest of their charity. How does that work? Perhaps Fish & Chips is just too... common, ...

Re: Bute / Coniston Back to Back

Well at least we can faithfully promise not to drag it out a minute more than we have to. Here's hoping that the the potential costs & timescale, of up-coming legal action, might bring Ruskin & Co. back to reality....? Perhaps that a bit too much to hope for - but it would be best for all c...

Re: Bute / Coniston Back to Back

It's a weird one - the normal logic not applying thing. If you sit and name the multitude of companies, organisations and individuals with whom we've worked to bring the project this far it's a very, very impressive list so clearly any communication issues do not lie at our side of the table. I thi...

Re: Bute / Coniston Back to Back

Any updates on second meeting or next steps? Unfortunately, despite the best efforts of Jordan and Peter, the first meeting achieved nothing and our date to arrange a second meeting came and went without so much as the courtesy of a reply so, with regret, it's in the hands of our lawyers now . Oh.....
