Re: Quicksilver

Reference Keith Mitchell's question in an earlier post ... Keith, I can't give away all our trade secrets but I'm happy to share some information that you will hopefully find helpful. Throughout the three-year period of very intensive activity which culminated in Quicksilver's design configuration ...

Re: Looking Back In Time- Archive Bluebird Photos

The aerodynamic effects of such damage at the speeds BB was travelling at on the fateful day cannot be regarded as insignificant. For those interested who have not read it, a full discussion on this subject took place a while back on the Forum: http://www.bluebirdproject.com/message/viewtopic.php?f=...

Re: Quicksilver

Thanks, Nigel, that's most illuminating. As for your control systems it would seem obvious to me that you would adopt electronic methods but can I ask is there much use of fibre-optic cable communications as this would seem to be particularly suited to the conditions the craft operates in? Also, I n...

Re: Other Speed Record Breakers Are Available!

I feel very privileged to have my comments challenged and corrected by the great Ken Warby. I freely admit that at my time of life - and confirmed by those close to me - inadvertent emanation from my transom is occurring with increased regularity, though to describe it as speech is perhaps too fine ...

Re: Quicksilver

You know what, I've had that version on file but was (obviously mistakenly) directed to the old URL on a recent posting on 'SRG' Forum!! Somewhat confusing might I say ----. Indeed, earlier in this thread I posed some concerns as to the absence of a horizontal stabiliser on the current design. Also,...

Re: Quicksilver

I'm a little confused! The version I'm looking at - which I take to be on the current version of the website - is a conventional triplaner with twin fins, a horizontal stabiliser and a centrally-mounted cockpit in front of the engine intake. Have I got this wrong? http://images.google.com/imgres?img...

Mike - can I ask, is that a peak-reading G meter, and, is there any record of it being logged after runs?

Re: Other Speed Record Breakers Are Available!

Mr Mitchell, earlier in this line of discussion you mention the rear tailfin for BB and the british would not use one as it broke the rules. I attach a part copy of an article by Ken Norris in a book by Kevin Desmond. Yes, that article clearly illustrates KN's dilemma; compliance with the ' Rules',...

Re: early 80`s jet hydroplane, Coniston.

Might I ask those who are more familiar with this project than me, whether it was ever considered as a serious attempt at hydroplane record-breaking? Looking at the photo's it is evident that there are some serious design deficiencies. For example, the high and rearward mounting of the jet engine wo...
