That's what I thought, that's why I'll be using it in conjunction with the plans from Fred's cd

I wouldn't be trusting the nose on ANY published plan of the boat. You can only eyeball it from the photos.

Bluebird & Other Scale Models

Post by midlife » Mon Jan 16, 2017 10:17 pm

I've been putting it off to have a go at vacuum forming the canopy, I made myself i box with holes in & a couple of frames to hold the A4 acetate.
Image
Needless to say it's been a very steep learning curve & ive run out of acetate. I think the 0.6mm I've been using is just too thick, I'll see if I can get some thinner stuff & give it another go at the weekend.

I've been looking for a 1/12 scale pilot figure for a while now, the only ones I could find that I liked were in Finland but very expensive. So I started looking for a 1/12 action figure, eventually I found a Jessie Pinkman figure from breaking bad (no I've not watched it either), it was only £10 so I thought why not..
Image
It's made out of vinyl & heavy, 120g, also it's solid and nothing moves, action figure eh!
I started off cutting his arms off & chopping him in half.
Image
He has the right posture now so I've started trying to remove some of the weight.
I've had to stop now so the kids next door can get some sleep, grrrr...
Image
Hope I can find a pilots helmet, I'm guessing I'll have to make one out of MilliputImage

I've been on with removing more material from the inside of my DMC wanna be & glueing him into the position I needed.
Image
Overall I've managed to reduce his weight by half.

I'm now researching what the lifejacket & harnesses should look like.

Bluebird & Other Scale Models

Post by midlife » Sun Jan 29, 2017 9:36 pm

In between family disasters & chaos at work things have been moving really slowly.
Dash made & DMC wanna be is on his third coat of Milliput.
The steering wheel I made from Milliput, took a while but I'm really pleased with it, I couldn't find one for love nor money so I had no other option.
Got some silver paint today so I'll paint the cockpit tomorrow night.

Well, i did a little minor reshaping of the helmet & mask, when I opened my tin of blue paint it resembled old jam, I thinned it out & gave him a coat, unfortunately it's going to need a second coat, more pics tomorrow.

Well here we go, now that I've finally made a start on the cockpit sides my DMC is just too wide, I'll take a mill off each side tomorrow, glue his arms on, do a final tarting up with millliput & give him a final coat or two of paint.

Over the weekend I made & fitted a dummy intake to give it some realism rather than just blanking them off.
I've also made a start on the canopy side & back mounts, really I should have made the canopy first & then make the mounts to fit, but that wouldn't be cricket now would it, far too many years at RR so I've forgotten that there is always a sensible easy way.
