Would that be the record for the peak speed on a one-way run of something that resembles a pushbike, measured by GPS?captain sparkle wrote:Records are falling like autumn leaves!

If that's record breaking, I'm going to strap a Lockwood pulsejet to my old soapbox racer and claim the record for maximum instantaneous speed by a (valveless) pulsejet powered contraption over the length of a cricket pitch, in the "measured by mountain bike speedometer" sub-category.

We were asking only the other day whether it was worth making up a dolly with a pair of wheels to bolt to K7's main spar and another to pick up on the rudder / stabilising fin attachments that we could easily steer with the existing arrangements and going for the land speed record for a boat... It would work!

Perhaps that's an idea that the tribute act might find it worth looking into....Renegadenemo wrote:We were asking only the other day whether it was worth making up a dolly with a pair of wheels to bolt to K7's main spar and another to pick up on the rudder / stabilising fin attachments that we could easily steer with the existing arrangements and going for the land speed record for a boat... At the Advanced Engineering show there was a Blue boat on display as had been promised. It is the hydrofoil electric craft known as V3 (which had been on show during the Pendine Sands electric car attempt by Joe Wales) and alongside the cockpit was the pilots name - Don Wales - and the GB flag, suggesting that it could be aiming for International competition. A 100 mph speed is promised for the craft, that should 'drive like a car' because it steers from the front 'foils' and is powered from the rear. No other technical details (such as battery type and motor type) offered, except for the visual use of carbon fibre composite materials.
Also at this show was Gabriel Uttley with parts of the Angelic Bulldog 400 mph bike - the Dan-Tec 8 cylinder engine was ready for running; a team from Liverpool University who are aiming to set a new human powered vehicle record in 2015 on the USA highway at Battle Mountain; the two seater recumbant streamlined tricycle that Guy Martin used on the 24 hour record human powered record bid - as seen on TV.

Nothing new. Slo-Mo-Shun set a 178 mph record with a prop - the last one set that way. And Mario Verga was doing around 190 mph when he died in Laura III in 1954.f1steveuk wrote:Cavitation, which occurs below 100mph, unless they've invented/discovered something new!!
Both of these were prop-riders, where only the bottom of the prop is in the water. More conventional props have been taken to 141.7 mph, with Bluebird K4.
Cavitation doesn't stop a propeller working - it just makes it less efficient. High speed props are 'Supercavitating' - which means that the cavitation is actually made use of, the forward side of the blade is not in contact with liquid water, only low pressure vapour, which means it encounters reduced drag as it rotates. A similar effect occurs with a prop-rider, except it is air on the suction side, not water vapour.

Rumour has it that they've designed a whole new prop concept and, through my secret contacts in the engineering world, I've been able to procure a picture of it.Cavitation, which occurs below 100mph, unless they've invented/discovered something new!!
