A sunny sunday with no rain forecast gave me a chance to swap a knackered "launch edition" PVC hood for a nicer Mohair one.

I've not sworn at so many stupid little plastic clips for a long time - and trying to keep hold of a hood on a frame with my head whilst bolting both sides to the car caused much merriment for the local rugrats.

Horrible job - much prefer working on older cars than these lego construction modern things

How are the MK3 MX5s without a lowering kit? My Mum's looking interestedly at another MX5 after her last one was written off (thanks to some silly girl in a Peugeot 206 who ran out of driving ability and took out two other cars in the process).

I'm saying it needs to be either a MK2.5 Sport or a 2.0l MK3 with the suspension kit from MX5Parts, otherwise she's better off keeping the 1988 MR2 she's driving at the moment. This is definitely the time of year to be looking, as while the last MX5 was absolutely fine in winter most potential buyers aren't thinking about convertibles in November!

TBH the older cars are more like Lego, they were designed to come apart and go back together again without lots of clips which seem designed to break!

Painting walls. No Gruffalo's child or Smurfs to be seen; the walls are blue, though.

Anyone been to see the latest James Bond 'Skyfall'?
I went to see it the other night and was highly disappointed and came out of the cinema in total shock.

Edited to remove all spoilers- way to go Polo- couldn't have buried your spoilers with a bloody shovel, could you? More consideration next time please!

MX5 Fine without the kit unless she's going to rag it. I do, and plan to go get the lowering kit fitted. Either do it yersel, and make sure it's sitting on it's wheels before you tighten all the bushes up, or get it done by the experts. Loads of stories about the kit being fitted without the bushes being loosened. The Eibach kit is the same as the Mazdaspeed kit I'm told, but don't listen to me - talk to the guys here.. http://www.wheels-inmotion.co.uk/mazda-mx5-handling.php They are by all accounts worth a day trip to get it sorted properly, and have their own lowering springs made. MX5OC folk go there from all over the UK.

But to be honest, on the original and stupidly expensive Advan's, it's the best handling car I've ever driven on a rough road. (Of which there are plenty between Middridge and Darlington). I'm a bit worried it'll be less capable on the potholes on the way to work with less travel. All the rest of the world have MX5's as standard at the right height, it's only Eurozone with the pedestrian regs that have them stupidly jacked up. It'll be on cheaper Toyo's after winter, but at the moment has winter knobbly's on the back and advans on the front, and will slide at about 5 mph.

Spoilers?? I'ts a Bond film. Those who have never seen a Bond film before in their life, look away now:

Bond goes to one or more exotic countries, gets into a fist fight, shoots some fiends, gets involved in a car/motorbike/boat/train chase, blows some stuff up, recovers the xyz, visits a casino, sleeps with unfeasibly attractive fellow/enemy agent, engages the enemy in conversation to delay his inevitable demise while he comes up with an unlikely escape plan, drinks a martini, stays in some very expensive hotels at the expnse of the UK taxpayer, loses the xyz, breaks all the rules and gets suspended, uses the most unlikely gadget to avoid a messy ending, recovers the xyz again, finds himself in mortal peril with no possible chance of survival, survives.

Did anyone think for a nano-second that they were going to kill him off?
