When we searched in 2001 the object was to locate Donald, recovering the boat became a by-product when it was discovered to be in good condition. Once we'd lifted the main man we went home. The search in 2007 was very specific. We went for the missing piece of frame, which we believed to have departed to the NE. There was no reason, or remaining time, to look in the NW. That's a luxury we'll enjoy when the opportunity arises.

 Any chance of seeing some more pics of the lake and surrounding area affected by the floods please? It'd be much appreciated.

Thank you sir, shocking pictures. It's a sad sight when you have swans sailing past your front door, but a sign of the times almost.

A couple of pictures taken in August 2010 on my annual "relive my youth" trip to Coniston.

That's good news on the reopening although I'll be there at the end of this month but I usually visit a couple of times a year to get my Lake District fix. I guess I'll still be able to get a brew in the porta cabin?
I was up the Old Man in Easter last year and the weather was great. At the top of the Old Man in shorts with the sun blazing down and snow still there was a new experience as it’s more often wet. Easter was in total contrast to August when the weather was awful.

Whenever it's done the Bluebird Cafe has cleverly been rebuilt about four times as big as it used to be. I was speaking to Phil and Judith this morning and they tell me that when it's done it'll seat over seventy people inside. Good for business on rainy days.

It is with great pleasure that I can inform one and all that Phil informed me tonight ( after humping a rather large cabinet out) that he is hoping to have the NEW Bluebird Cafe up and running by Friday 18th February 2011. Given the weather we have been encountering since before Christmas the local contractors "Kirbrides " having done a fantastic job to keep the refurbishment project on course. The only problem I can see with the new cafe is that once you are sat there taking in the full view of the lake now because of the new glass frontage, Phil and Judith may have to introduce with every bacon butty and tea you get a egg timer! My suggestion because you ain't going to want to move once you get settled and comfortable looking at a picture postcard setting. Cafe looks great and looking forward to the cabins going however Judith said they had grown on her and have served a valuable purpose in keeping the business alive whilst the work was being carried out. A bit like playing in a child's den which I can understand. Looking forward to records week this year as the weather for the spectators will not be a problem and my towel will be well and truly in situ

Sorry about that Mike never gave that a thought. However if it does continue to rain tonight you could be proven correct! I hope not?

Hi Mike show the frontage one could you? Things are not quite finished but they are now open for business and Phil and Judith are over the moon with the newly refurbished and extended Bluebird cafe. Many congratulations to them and their hardworking staff. Had my usual Hot Chocolate with cream and Bacon butty this morning. Excellent! And there are plans to extend the opening hrs from May with evening meals. With views like that i have already made my booking. :D

Bring it on Phil and Judith.
