Re: broken Barracuda Project
It's going to be a Baddacooda that piled into a pond in Northern Ireland, Mike that aircraft nutter will be along in a mo to tell you what it's called. The FAAM took possession of it in the 70s on condition that it was rebuilt one day in honour of its crew who were killed in the crash and it'll our privilege to do so - once we get this big tin boat knocked together.

Re: broken Barracuda Project
Shouldn't think so (though don't quote me as I know even less about Baddacoodas than I do about Donald's expolits) but there was only 30 MK I variants made with only an elastic band for propulsion and so far as I know they were only used for training and such. Most of the rest were MK IIs so that's likely what lumbered over your granddad's head on their way to crash into a mountain or collapse their landing gear somewhere.Meh......... being Mk2 she would have been well after Avalanche then

I had the massive privilege of co-presenting with 'Winkle' at AAIB then wandering around the place with him for half an hour later having a natter. Living history, a fabulous character and also kind enough to write the intro for the Barra' site.

Re: The Barracuda Project
If you want any help with general content for the Barra project site, you have only to ask - my book on it is nearly finished (next in line after my Mustang book), plus I've been working on a biog of Fairey test pilot Duncan Menzies so I have a fair bit of info.
(If you wanted to use any of the Barra content from my blog, you'd be welcome to do that too)
All the best,
Matt

Re: The Barracuda Project
Hi Matt,
Thanks for that - we may just take you up on that offer as we don't have a lot of time for extra websites and there's not too much written about the Barra'. The tailplane spars are coming on very nicely now - or at least they were 'til we nicked our two Barra' apprentices to rivet K7's engine cover as soon as they were up to the required standard. The site will be going live very soon.
