Well that's obvious- we talk in extremes to make our points- 'zero' sounds a damn sight colder than '32'!

Not the greatest piece, but the Daily Mail have cobbled this together from the Sunday Mirror and some archive stuff-

- unfortunately, nowhere does it say who is running the project.

What confuses me is when it's cold outside people use Celsius and when it's hot they use Fahrenheit.
That's an easy one - a hundred sounds hot and minus-five doesn't seem so bad just as six feet is smaller than than one hundred and eighty two centimetres. Not to mention the ridiculous waste of syllables in every case.

We have a measurement based on the distance between a certain kings shoulder and the finger tip of his outstretched arm (the yard and Henry VIII) and a railway gauge based based on the width of a horses arse (the distance of early tracks being just wide enough to get a horse to be able to walk between the tracks and tow a wagon), so I am all for the smoot, the "tad" and the "gnats tadger"........................(57 year old teenager)

Engineering also defines special factors, such as the IFF or Infinitesimal Fudge Factor. This is not a constant, but a variable quantity which, when added to an otherwise incorrect measurement or quantity, provides the necessary correction.

There's a phenomenon in aerospace called 'magic muck' where a valve or control module or whatever behaves as though contaminated inside but when it's opened up nothing can be found and when reassembled it all works again.

Great stuff, especially if it increases our supporter base and level of donations

And I'm on Radio 5 Live in the morning at about 07:20. Should be a unique experience - I had no idea there was such a time on a Sunday! Back to bed after that, I reckon.

Yes the unique experience is you being up at 7.20 on a Sunday
