Did you not know common sense has been banned (except in the BBP Workshop) and all accidents are someone elses fault and they must be made to pay for your stupidity

Glad I do not buy or read the Daily Mail. The quote seems to be very odd - almost deserving of a new Idiocy type rating. Attempting 300 mph on water needs a clear thinker not "a crackpot". It makes me wonder if we need to spell out to the Mail readership what "engineering trials" are all about.

I used to enjoy watching Concorde during air displays and when taking off from Heathrow - it was not running at supersonic speed but still remained impressive in flight. Just seeing them on the ground at various Museums is such a waste.

"There's something gloriously English, ie batty, about rebuilding Donald Campbell's record-breaking speedboat Bluebird K7 which broke up at 300mph and killed him on Coniston Water 34 years ago. His daughter, Gina, has been given permission to hold speed trials up to 100mph.
Surely the only point of rebuilding Bluebird is to fulfil Campbell's dream or keep it as a stationary exhibit. Piddling about Coniston at 100mph is neither here nor there. There's no shortage of crackpots who'd like to suceed where brave Donald sadly failed."
Comments, anyone?
Forgive me for lowering the tone on this fine forum, but where I live we have a name for the type of person who writes comments like the one above

That word is 'Bawbag'. (A baw is a 'ball' in Scotland by the way)

Forgive me.

Yeah there always seems to be someone who takes the high ground in newspaper articles-no matter what the subject they always seem to disagree-armchair experts!-seen something similar the last few days when reading about Carl-suddenly all sorts of "experts" voiced opinions about "sport divers" getting in trouble with uncontrolled ascents-mostly from our friends in the colonies funnily enough!-and I reckon that of all people Carl was definitely not a "sport diver"- yeah I agree with the quote being odd and was contemplating a "letter to the editor" but (A) it's not the Times and (B) I'm not a retired Colonel who still uses his army rank! just a retired Flight Lieutenant who would rather forget it!

There's all sorts of opinions on tec-diving. The colour-coordinated holiday divers who splash amongst the coral turn their noses up mostly because they're just not good enough while the self-proclaimed elite of the commercial diving world sneer from their surface-supplied helmets at the risk taking. They all forget about owing their safety to the knowledge brought back by those divers who explore the boundaries, many of whom pay the ultimate price.

Hi All,
I haven't commented on Carl's passing, as I didn't know or meet him. But due to my work on my BBP archive and the Project history, I feel that I 'almost' (thank's to Bill and his team) knew Carl, and the rest of the recovery team. It isn't until a tragedy like this, that you realise the risks involved in such a project.
My consolences go to his family and friends.

MM hear,
I'm sorry if I upset anyone, that wasn't my intention. I was only quoting a comment from the Daily Mail.

I think the comments were directed to the person that posted on the Daily Mail and not you

Yes sir, my rant was aimed at the armchair warrior who saw fit to write that brainless comment to the paper. 'Piddling about in Coniston'? That man needs a brain transplant. Sorry for any confusion model-maker.
