I am thinking of another famous scottish loch in the history of speed records - Loch Ness ??

I think Loch Ness is far too deep should it be necessary to go down and retrieve anything that comes off e.g. the canopy. Fad is fairly shallow IIRC.

Just been on the local news about it. Just some footage from Bute and the due to unexpected circumstances etc. Dont think it came as much of a shock to most though. Hopefully next year.

Crazy situation yet again. Did people not see what happended on Bute and how the locals embraced the visit , bent over backwards to accomodate Bluebird and the team and how thousands of people from all over the world flocked to a small clyde island.

Now we would love Bluebird back but I dont think that is the answer as Loch Fad was stretched to the limits speed wise. Dont get me wrong , if you announced a return to Bute , you would receive the same welcome and assistance and probably an increase in visitors but I am thinking of another famous scottish loch in the history of speed records - Loch Ness ??

Tend to agree re outgrowing Loch Fad. The couple of days I had on Bute were magical and Loch Fad was perfect for the team & K7's first tentative step back on water - you could sense confidence growing every day up to and beyond the 'hairy moment'.
On the other hand pushing up the speed is not necessarily the aim of the game (yet) so a return to Bute with added fringe events may be the best option?

Been a most peculiar day.

I've taken endless calls from the media asking what's going on - many of them old pals that we've worked with for years - and there's me telling them I don't have a clue, because I don't. Had the BEWG said they were deferring due to the enormity of the task and safety was their priority and that we were now aiming for 2020 that would make sense and be respected by all but 'unforeseen circumstances'? What does that mean in this instance? Had someone important fallen ill or something vital been denied we'd have doubtless been told and could explain but there's only deafening silence.

The LDNPA, on the other hand, considering that being proactive is anathema to them, have at least played with a straight bat throughout, their press office being decent enough to answer questions informatively and confirm the sad assumption that the BEWG never submitted an application for K7 to run on Coniston Water. Won't have a bad word said against them...

Tomorrow more of us will make another attempt to learn what's what but were I to throw a suggestion out there it would be that the old-guard in Coniston have a long, hard look at themselves in the mirror then hand the baton to as as many young, hungry youngsters as they can marshal.

There are a lot of frustrated people out there, the good residents of Coniston being many of them, I have watched public media with a keen eye since the news broke, everyone is asking the same questions and making the same noises and the dissapointment is clear indeed.

With regards to my own feelings, since the go date for 2019 was released we have worked tirelessly to put stuff in place, I have had to take time off work to assist Sally survey the slipway, I also had to drive to Birmingham to meet and greet a select team of divers for the task. Sally had drawn up rosters and training schedules, along with all the dive and rescue documentation for said divers to ensure we complied with such an event.

Sally and I both assisted where we could, Malcolm to write a comprehensive document which was submitted to LDNPA in a timely manner.

Jordan has drawn up training plan so any helmsmen attending would be certified to the appropriate level, a training venue was sourced and boats to conduct training made ready.

All of it has personally cost us money which we won’t see again, nor will we ask to see it........but two mystic lines on an email isn’t good at all.

I still say wait and see what they say rather than speculate but it isn’t good at all as it stands.

Where ever we go from here, we will do it in our usual methods of “best foot forward”.

I hold on to the hope that as we look forward to July, we can enjoy a calaborative event somewhere with the Ruskin and perhaps even the LDNPA representatives who can see first hand what running the boat is all about.

I still say wait and see what they say rather than speculate but it isn’t good at all as it stands.

I know nothing more than anyone else.

However, whilst the BBP may well 'wait and see … rather than speculate', may I suggest that the various organisations within Coniston get together and start planning now, as I trust they want a Festival and the Proving Trial to occur on some dates in 2020.

Only the organisations/people in the BEWG know the 'back story' which led up to the e mail announcement from the CPC. More importantly, they are the only ones who will know what now has to be put in place to get the Event approved for 2020.

I hope Coniston steps-up, and gets out of the comfort of its own armchair and can put on a decent show in 2020.

At least if this doesn't happen, they already have their excuse - BREXIT!!

Hoping its not a coincidence that some members on the forum who requested removal after it was announced K7 would make future runs after Bute, have not had communication or influence with Coniston over it's decision not to play in 2019.

We plan an outing to somewhere this year - way too many people clamouring to see K7 run to let them down - would you bring your high speed RC craft to to join us?

If you'd like to see them, yes, me/we would bring it/them - and run them if possible. If the location and the dates are fixed maybe also some of the K7 RC models might show up - again, if that fits into your plans.
