Eric Skiegley or something like that, he had a project call Brooklander, so that sounds right. Last time I saw him he was at a talk I was giving at Brooklands, and had some of the '35 drawings with him. He certainly wanted lots of money, because his project was to either buy the '35 car, or build a new one at Brooklands from those drawings. Politely? A very odd chap! But very passionate about the subject.

Agree absolutely. As recent posts have been concerned with the Railton it may be better to incorporate future discussion on this subject into the John Cobb thread (that also deals with Crusader). Interesting information emerging from all of this.

If he was passionate about the subject, then I probably picked up on his "odd-ness" and misinterpreted it as him being dispassionate. But he was obviously not so passionate about the Railton Mobil Special, specifically, because otherwise he wouldn't have been selling its original drawings!

But I guess from what you're saying, Steve, he wanted to raise the funds to advance another speed-record-related project, so I've probably done the chap a slight disservice.

Certainly, it must have been the same guy I was speaking to - judging by your post, "Pullman99". It was around 1993 that I had my telephone conversation, so that's that one solved.

So presumably he still has those drawings?

If so, it's good to know they are in a known, safe place - in case anyone ever needs access to them.

Nearly finished reading Donald's book. An interesting - nay, fascinating - read but I think the publisher let him down rather, with some of the page design being a bit 'off' and tacky adverts for other titles at the bottom of some pages. Also agree with the comments about needing some knowledgeable proofreading or sub-editing, what with 'Bluebird K5' and the Proteus 'turbojet' (turboprop) which powered the Fairey Gannet (which was Double Mamba powered); also posters of the 1964 record being captioned as 1960 and so on. Sadly for me, a bit thin on the sort of photographic and drawing content I was after too. I want a CN7 Haynes Manual...

I really enjoy the Haynes aircraft 'manuals' that I have, and would love to see one produced about K7 one day

The idea came up some time ago but it was going to involve a lot of hard work at our end and they weren't offering much in return so it was shelved. Who knows, it may be dusted off and revisited in the future.

Sadly, blockbusting novels aside, the only money being made in publishing is by the publishers - and Amazon. The people who do the real work are at the bottom of the pile.

Probably sound a little daft, but why not try to produce your own?

Start as an "E-Book", then move on to a physical book at a later date. Just a thought.
