Thats an excellent grab Mike and Mr.Jackson from the BBC can come again given that excellent piece he did. Its the first time I have seen it on the forum tonight. Seen other bits and pieces and the Mirror article on Saturday was a good spread I felt on the whole obviously taking in the facts as told with the excpetion of the Mr. Whoppitt part which Gina did at one point put up for auction. The little bear did not meet its reserve so remained with Gina. The fact is the little bear was locked away in a safe for many a year and Gina thought it should be on display in a museum for all to see. Also the Mirror article carried pics of the 1955'56 configuration of K7 along with the the headline "I'm Going" rubbish thats were it all started! And no doubt a pic will probably appear shortly when i was set up a few years ago but hay ho always up for a bit of fun The Bluebird project has a great bunch of lads and lasses working towards our final goal of showing the world once again if the British make their minds up they can achieve anything.

Not a bad press given the current U.S Election going on. The fact we maybe facing a cold war again if the American election goes the wrong way.

Thank you for your kind words. And you're right. It was awesome. Apart from the howling bedlam and heat in what had previously been a big lump of chilled metalwork, that all the switches, warning lights, instruments, pumps, igniters and controls worked first time out and from the cockpit was the real buzz of the day. We all bemoaned the pouring rain but it served beautifully to show the jet-wash not to mention keeping the JPT well down so we had plenty in hand when doing a few slam-accelerations. The inlets make the most glorious roar when you floor it.
We had to disable the second boost pump, ironically the one that finally got K7 going in 67, because it seems it was over-fuelling the engine after which she lit and spooled up just as expected - we'll re-calibrate the fuel system to account for this when we get the engine back on the test rig. It took a couple of runs to get the last of the air out of the fuel lines then we handed the controls to Ted who handled it like a pro after a quick brief on how to operate things from the cockpit. He'd already had some practice on the test rig so it was a good transition. As we speak the boat is pretty much stripped down again and within days she'll be an empty hull back on her rollover jig so we can finish the fabrication over the winter. Lots to do on the floors and all the outer skins to finish and rivet in place. But surely by now, the 'when-brigade' must be able to see that we're going to finish this sooner rather than later.

As a quick postscript, one of our biggest concerns with running the engine in the hull was that the fuel line from the main tank to the piston pump on the engine is a siphon with a little bleed valve right at the top to purge any air. But it's an inch-bore pipe with many a chance to leak through old or new fittings and joints so we had visions of the engine lighting then sucking air only to flame-out moments later. It faltered a little, probably due to trapped pockets here and there, but soon cleared itself so we were well happy.
But tonight came the time to de-fuel the system so we could strip out the tanks.
To do this we decided to disconnect the pipe immediately downstream of the LP cock and attach another from there to an empty drum as we reckoned we had about 25 gallons still in the main tank. (Our original plan was to run it dry but we ran out of daylight) so we spannered on the pipe and hit the go-button to the LP pumps (with the second one reconnected). They're 500gph pumps but they only push - they don't suck, yet the tank was emptied in under a minute, which means the siphon had remained intact from Saturday until Wednesday without a leak. Result!
