Bills Hat

Post by rednjoey »

The latest picture of the day showing Bill in Bluebirds cockpit wearing his hat.
I remember reading somewhere it was called a particular name but can't for the life of me
remember what it was called. Can anyone (Bill?) help and is there a history behind it.

For a long time it was called his searching hat as every time we went searching for anything it was on his head
If it can't be fixed with duck tape it can't be fixed

It is indeed my world-famous searching hat...

I bought it at an outdoor centre in Newcastle back in the days before everyone clicked on Amazon and stuff was brought to your door. We wen to places called 'shops' where desirable items were displayed in the flesh, as it were, and could be exchanged for money. As it was Christmas and shopping was needed and parking was difficult a friend of mine and his new girlfriend came for the ride. Except he and the girlfriend were all loved-up and smoochy so while they carried on like a pair of lovebirds I got bored and ended up in the outdoor centre looking at silly hats. The fleece came from the same shopping trip and that's the first time they've been reunited since the day we lifted the boat in 2001. The mate who was loved up also appears briefly in the news piece about the engine running too. He lives in France now, happily married to the girl and they have a couple of kids .
My searching hat was my good luck talisman when looking for shipwrecks or bodies or whatever else we went after and there's not much we failed to find but nowadays it rarely comes out - only on special occasions...

With all due respect, Rich, you're about the least heffalump-esque guy l can think of. Now take Mike, on the other hand...
