The shape of the nose was governed by how deep into the sections it's made from the tin-bashers could get a shrink. It comprises two sides and a top and joins along the centre of the curve where horizontal becomes vertical with everything meeting at the tip of the nose. They could get a shrink about four inches into the edge of a panel so once you understand this rule and apply it the nose will form itself.

That looks better. There's a whole section in the diary about building the inlets - Mike might know where it is, time is a blur to me.
Now you have to get the thickened inlet lips right. Took us six attempts, they did.

November 2012 Bill, time flys eh!
I'm not planning on using shims though[.]
I've just modified the baseboard so that all the bulkheads & inner frames are held square, now it's time to draw up the inner frame forward of the DSH bulkhead, hopefully I'll get them cut out in the morning.

Hehe, memory not what it used to be Bill?
Being inside a hull fitting a gazillion rivets can do that without adequate hearing protection[.][.](I'll get my coat)

Bluebird & Other Scale Models

Post by midlife »

Had a busy day today, it took longer than than I thought deciding how many & where to put the bulkheads forward of DSH, eventually I plumped on 4 bulkheads, blocked them on the base board so they couldn't move & then set to with the front part of the main frame. I know its detail that no one will ever see but I had to reduce the weight anyway so I might as well make it "something" like the Norris brothers intended.
My quandary now is do I cut out the insides of all the bulkheads now & glue it all together nice & rigid so I can cut the foam to fit, or do I cut the foam to fit as it is now & then strip it all down & cut/glue it later.
Ahh sod it, now I've written it down it's a no brainier, I'll cut the bulkheads & glue it now, I'll just leave a brace across the bottom of each bulkhead that I can cut out at a later date, phew!
It's good to talk [.][.]
Here are some pics of my progress, be gentle with me[.]

Is it me or do all of those frames forward of F-15 taper towards the bottom? if so, that's not right. The taper doesn't get going until about F-19

The bulkheads are all square at the moment, the top of the frames on the other hand have a very gradual taper until it reaches the spar where it's flat then after the spar it takes a nosedive. That's how it's drawn on the plans I got from Fred?
That's really going to bug me now[.]
