Re: Isle of Bute
Some nice ideas but if Cumbria drops the ball we're looking at Loch Eck. Made the preliminary enquiries and it's all very positive...

Exasperating to think of the many places with which Donald Campbell and Bluebird have been associated over the years, where the local populace and authorities would, in all probability, move heaven and earth to host the proving trials.
Meanwhile, back at the place with the longest and most famous connection with Campbells and Bluebirds: (sound clip of snoring and tumbleweed).

Re: Return to the Water
I honestly don't get what all the fuss is about regarding Coniston. It's deep and dark with extremely unpredictable weather. The facilities are less than ideal and no one over there seems bothered anyway. If they don't pull out all the stops to host us it's a no-brainer, we run somewhere else.

Re: Return to the Water
I am sure that Coniston is not the 'only' location, but it is perhaps the most important to the story of K7?
Coniston - four outright world water speed records by K7.
Ullswater - the first outright world water speed record over 200mph by K7.
Lake Mead - one outright world water speed record by K7.
Lake Dumbleyung - one outright world water speed record by K7. [Perhaps the most enthusiastic township behind DMC and K7].
As the first two are LDNPA 'controlled' we have two overseas contenders and of course the sites that are 'neutral' (have never seen Bluebird K7), closer to home.

Re: Return to the Water
How about a change of scenery? Coniston has had more than its fair share, Dumbelyung is shrivelling before our eyes and I suspect Lake Mead is horribly deep in the middle...
Loch Eck, anyone?

Bill, have you considered Loch Earn ?
Re: Return to the Water
Whilst I would love to see Bluebird run again on Consiton, would seem to properly complete the loop somehow. But ultimately it's about putting on the best spectacle possible before she spends her days in a museum. Wherever this as long as it is open and visible to as many that want to see then it's all good as far as I am concerned.

Interestingly when I looked at
https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/Las ... 15.1398296
I see that the Americans call their premier lake facility for the area the 'National Recreation Area'. Perhaps that is a title and goal the UK government should consider moving the ldnpa towards....as opposed to the 'lake district not permitted area'
