Bluebird Models

Good idea in principle and one we've discussed before, but the tooling costs involved would be huge and as you point out, as yet we've not got a complete boat to scan anyway!

It's true to say though that NONE of the models/kits of Bluebird that have been available over the years, in any scale, are correct! She's a mysterious old bird at the best of times, and the subtleties of her true shape can be quite something to behold.

Checking against photos and my own drawing, is it fair to say the list is:

1. Foredeck area narrows too much towards the front (pack some filler on the sides and shape to suit)
2. Nose profile off (more filler to make it less rounded at the front)
3. Rear of flutes too thick at the end (some cutting and sanding to bring them to a point at the end - also need to build the topsurface up with filler at the stern)
4. Fairing at base of fin wrong angle (cut off, sand flat and add back at correct angle from filler or semi-circular section plastic rod)
5. Fuselage needs a little fattening up around the central area to give it a slightly humped appearance in profile

I can't see what's wrong with the steering blister or cockpit sides though?

It's probably a limitation of the small scale, but the cockpit sides look a little shallow to me, the 'ramp' is a little steeper than that. The steering blister is a little out of position.

What are those diagonal lines running down from under the front spar?!

Ignore those - they're where the mould meets - there was a wafer of resin flash extending along that line, I cut it away for the photos but didn't clean up the remainder.

Meant to point out that the decal for the sponson tops is wrong too. It reads 'do not stand' when it should actually read 'do not stand here'

The reason, incidentally, is that there was virtually nothing under there and the weight of someone standing or kneeling on it would have squished it.

Perhaps many of you have seen this before, but during a Google images search I came across this delightful Lego model of K7-

I was at Race Retro at Stoneleigh yesterday. Great event with some superb vehicles and a really large "art" section.

This model of Bluebird CN7 was on the Paul Dove Studios stand along with a couple of paintings of Donald and K7. Superb quality.
