a fiver says some arty-farty display designer and a committee managed to turn a no-brainer into a complete abortion. trust me, I've watched them try before.
I'm only a plumber from Cannock...
This is not put on as a public entertainment... it's put on to reach a certain goal.
Yes, congratulations Stu. Really must get around to making an honest woman out of Jockladeshi one day...
Anyway, while we're all sharing our jollies, here's a brief run through of the rest of our Liverpool trip-
Statue of John Lennon on one corner of the Hard Day's Night Hotel- (The other three are up there too)

Another statue of John, this time in Mathew Street, looking over at The Cavern Club-

The next day, we started with The Beatles Story-

This was weird- hadn't we just been in here yesterday?! ('Twist & Shout' was booming out- it was great!)

Jockladeshi had joked that she wanted to see a Yellow Submarine on this trip...and there was one!

You'll know who these belonged to...
P7100646_640x480.jpg
The 'Imagine' room right at the end- the song was playing on a loop and it was all strangely effective actually- very moving.

On to the Merseyside Maritime Museum and the original builder's model of the Titanic-

A genuine lifebelt and lifeboat name plaque from the ship-

...and finally it was back to the Cavern, where Jockladeshi saw her first ever live music!

We saw a set by Tony Coburn, who's been performing at the Cavern for about ten years now. Here's a clip- keep watching- he was joined for a couple of songs by his brother Jimmy, but I've no idea who he was meant to be!

Going back to U-534 attraction for a minute, I've finally gotten around to watching the five quid souvenir DVD that I brought home from there. I'd not been expecting a lot from it but it turned out to be pretty good- largely comprising the documentary that was on the TV at the time of the raising. There was some great footage of the sub underwater and being raised, and then in dock being searched through once it was recovered. It was hard to connect the whole craft in the DVD to the chopped up, sanitised attraction you see today- at least the fascinating interiors remain largely untouched looking.
I keep calling it an 'attraction' as I think that's the nub of the matter- it's not owned by 'U-Boat Preservation Museums Ltd', it's owned by Mersey Travel as part of the whole 'ferry 'cross the Mersey thing.

Not quite at the weekend, but in the land that time forgot, strange things happen. A bunch of chaps(and chappesses, on occasion) have been gathering in the first week of July for around 55 years now. They start on the Castletown 'bypass', then race round a vaguely square circuit of some 4 1/2 miles of narrow public road (closed to traffic, of course!). It's the Southern 100!
