We'll likely hang onto it and rebuild it as and when and build ourselves a boat to play with at records week. That looks like fun.

And ofcourse it would be painted green so as not to be confused with any other blue boats likely to be at Records Week and to prevent Novie from driving it!

Who knows, this year's blue one may well be painted green by then. It certainly could do with a change of image!

But it is a tribute to a member of a famous family. A family where the patriach 100 years ago chose blue as the colour of their racing/land speed vehicles. Doubt that we will see a different colour ............. but they may paint it all next year.

I'd say it's more of a tribute to the founder of the Type III society at the moment but the management is aware so hopefully it'll be sorted for next year.

Malcolm If Bill built me a boat to play with and it was painted Green I'd still drive the Green thing for a record if given half a chance Malcolm. :D Nice try though and don't forget Blue and Yellow are the racing colours of Bluebirds not just Blue me old mate.

On another note Bill would it not be possible to get some division or trainee jet engineers at some base or wherever to referb the engine for the project? Then have it as a standby which could be put in the boat at some point and tested as suggested and credibility gained as being in the hull of K7? Then perhaps consider ways of giving the enthusiast an opportunity to purchase components i.e blades? R Noble sold stuff off after the Thrust S.S.C had achieved the supersonic record to recoup expenditure during the life of the Project.

So far as I'm aware no overhaul facility exists for the old Orph' except possibly for one or two places that do sub-contract work on industrial gas turbines. Having said that I think we know just enough now and have enough contacts in aerospace to tackle some basic work of our own to the required standard providing we get the relevant repair schemes and promise never to go flying so the old lump isn't quite dead yet.
We also have loads of bits and bobs we could sell off if needs be and maybe we will because we've spent a fortune these last couple of months and the coffers need topping up.

Bill, did I ever actually remember to put you in touch with the engine guy at Monarch? I think it was when I was on quite a cocktail of pain medication, so I can't trust anything my memory says from back then.

I think the Indian Air Force still has a few Kiran MkII's flying which are Orphues powered although they are in the process of retiring them. HAL (Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd) had overhaul capability for the engine in Bangalore. I know that the fuel system was maintained by the IAF themselves at 4BRD in Kanpur; it is possible they also repaired the Orphues engines there as they certainly maintained other engines.

I'm sure that one or other of them would look favourably on your project as a charity case - I could probably dig out some contacts, but count me out of the negotiations...

Looking at the pic of the tail fin this weekend reminded me that whilst supporting it before it went into the holding fixture everyone who says that the Union flag is upside down on one side is wrong.

The clue is in the direction a flag would fly from a staff or pole when the boat is going forward.

A superstitious pilot of the craft would never have allowed the signal for distress to be flown, but as an engineer he would know how it would fly.
