The Bluebird K3 Thread

Re: K3 & K7 ??

Perhaps they'd find such an approach a bit arrogant and tell us where to stick our trials? But I do wish we could get all the remaining fabric of K7 into one place, if not back into the boat itself- surely that's the right and proper thing to do if you care about the subject matter- what's the sense of hoarding it?

EDIT-

Or another thought- one day we'll need to paint a big circle on each of our new sponsons and paint the infinity sign in it etc. What's better- do your best to get it right from the old photos, or copy that real surviving piece to the absolute nth degree?

Bluebird K3 debut at Goodwood Revival

Land Speed Record hydroplane powerboat at Revival
Exciting news this week – the original Bluebird K3 Land Speed Record hydroplane powerboat will make its Goodwood debut at this year’s Revival. Commissioned in 1937 by Sir Malcolm Campbell to rival the Americans' efforts in the fight for the world water speed record, the Rolls Royce aero-engined monster set three world water speed records. The first was on Lake Maggiore in September 1937, then later twice raising her own record – the fastest speed being 130.91 mph in 1938. Although K3 will not be on water at the Revival, do make your way over to the entrance of the Freddie March Spirit of Aviation Concours, where the hydroplane’s flame-spitting V12 engine will thunder into life several times a day.

You might have done if a certain design by Ken Norris had made it beyond the drawing board!

I've had quite enough of his flippin' designs for one evening, thank you!

Sponson, anyone?

Just saw Bluebird K3 on the 10 o'clock news. She looked impressive.

BBC news video on the boat running here-

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-19960892

-they make mention of the boat's 'aeroplane' engine- of course actually it's got a tank engine fitted.
