There's a bit more to the story of 'Patience'. The painting was composed from sonar images to get the relationship between the small piece of the wreckage and the main hull correct, photgraphs of the main hull as recovered with the mud line clearly visible and video of the lakebed shot with the ROV so what you see in that painting is absolutely faithful except for the underwater visibility.

Also, in the original painting the blue of the small piece of wreckage (actually the tip of the nose with the crossed flags) is made of genuine K7 paint that we ground into a fine powder and Arthur worked into the painting.
See below a detail shot of the nose wreckage and one of Arthur's early sketches as he worked on the composition.

Better still - Arthur has generously donated fifty prints to the project to which he is going to add a genuine brush stroke making each one unique. Anone want one?

And as for his Dali-esque work - I particularly like these two.

By the way - I did ask before uploading these. Thanks Arthur.
I always think that the clock has been floating around the ocean for so long that its pointers have rusted off long ago yet it won't sink.

And the key in the clouds is just a question you can't answer.

I wouldn't presume to criticise any artists work, but I can appreciate most. Arthurs are in a league of their own. I have always wished to paint, but have never been able to.

I mentioned that fact to John Pittaway, when he first showed me 'Contemplation', which at the time was still in pencil only. His reply was "I've always wanted to draw faces like your's".

I suppose it means that no artist is truely satisfied with his own work.

Regards to all, Fred

I view this art malarkey much as I listen to music.

I'm yet to discover a band where I like every last piece they ever wrote and at the same time I like at least one piece of music by every band I've ever taken an interest in. Fred has often captured the subject beautifully but sometimes he's missed completely. Arthur turns out work that doesn't do it for me one day then blows me away the next.

I whiled away a few hours trying to draw Donald''s face with a pencil when I first watched the John Lomax DVD and I've painted Bluebird rather badly once or twice over the years but doing either to a standard where you'd show it in public is extraordinarily difficult so respect to Fred, Arthur and anyone else brave enough to put their art in the public domain then poke their head above the trenches and invite our criticism.

The Corporal's Poster

Postby how-di-do » Tue Sep 15, 2009 10:14 am

Dear all,

I have just received my Charity Poster from Fred, and couldn’t stop myself from telling you all. I did hear that not many have placed an order yet, I can't think why, and with all the proceeds going to the “Corporal’s” hospital too!

The poster is wonderful, the colour’s, detail, just right. If you miss this, you will be sorry.

Anna.
