I actually had a stalker once, so it did cross my mind as to the whether it was happening again!

I never had a stalker but I was once trapped in a small room with seven of the worst Bluebird anoraks imaginable - that was scary!

Atleast you came away from that knowing the exact numer of rivets you'd need to rebuild the old girl. All I got was a lesson on the potential for insanity in female colleagues!

I'll wager there's hundreds of folk out there that've never had unexplained goings on in the workshop or met a spooky clairvoyant thinking we're all nuts but hey-ho. So, changing the subject slightly - what's the official number of rivets in this thing? We all know Donald was prone to embellishing the truth so, according to legend, how many rivets is K7 supposed to have?

I know the figure that's claimed in one publication but I'm not sure I want to say it incase any of the riveting team read this and you don't see them for dust!

Given the number quoted for the intakes and the comment above I'm going to guess at ten thousand!

As for the spooky happenings, the stuff apparently being moved is hard to explain!

I would tend to put down chills and feelings that "someone is watching" as down to the weirdness that is the human brain though. Those working on K7 know her history, parts like the seat pan will cause more of a reaction because of the direct connection to DMC's death. While your conscious mind is thinking about rivet removal and shrinking dents your subconscious will be thinking that a man died sitting on this part.

I'd agree wholeheartedly with that. The first time I lowered myself into the cockpit with the skins in place it seemed dark and bottomless and once in i couldn't get out quick enough. Purely a reaction, and no more. But things flying about the workshop - well that's an altogether different matter.

By the way, I think we've put about ten thousand rivets in so far.

She was so peed off, she didn't talk to me for 2 days!
I know a few guys who would pay £1000's for that privelage for just a few hours, let alone 2 days............

What must it of been for that to occur one wonders?

By the way, I think we've put about ten thousand rivets in so far.

I've seen estimates for the ACTUAL number used in the whole boat ranging from as 'few' as 25,000 all the way up to 44,000, although the number stated in The Bluebird years trumps that by quite some margin.

Even after removing probably 80 percent of the original rivets, i lost count after 2,000. I however was never ceased to be amazed at the amount of rivets used even to hold the smallest parts of the boat together. The formers for the engine and tail cover all have little feet riveted in, and the smallest of these take 12 rivets each which must be 4 inches square at most, the larger ones use up to 25 each.
The best quote i ever heard though was from a certain Australian known as Ken Warby commenting on the seat pan.
" 1,000 rivets to hold your arse"? We all had a good laugh at that one.

Why don't we have a competition to find out how many rivets will have been used when 'she' is finished.

I'm quite sure Bill will have a damed good idea how many have been purchased.

Just like the lottery, you could charge £1 a guess, but with a minimum of 5 guesses. All the money collected could buy more rivets.
