Does anyone out ther know where the centre of gravity was on K7 to enable me to statically balance my working model.Have had a couple of sucessfull runs using Electric Ducted Fan 1:12 scale model, but recently changed the fan for a more powerful one.Like Donald, I think I have a CofG problem, reading variuos articles on K7 and hydroplane models, the CofG moves further back the faster you go, so you need to add extra weight at the transon to balance the forces.I am trying to design a larger 1:10 scale model, using useful information gained from the 1:12 testing I have done so far..I will be trying a CofG 1/3 the distance between the back of the sponsons and the transon, so 2/3 of the weight goes to the front and 1/3 the weight to the rear.If anybody knows where Donald had his CofG, I would be very interested.

Ok, with the risk of being shouted at (loudly) by the experts, I basically sucked it a see'd with my 1:6th gas turbine powered K7 model. With all the gubbins in, and a litre of fuel, the C of G came out ROUGHLY in line with the rear spar. It was a few years ago now and as I say it was just done by eye until I got the model to balance. Think Leo, sandbags and biscuit tins, that was my approach. Might not be mathematically correct but, it worked! Hope this helps. Chris

K7's cofg was 11 feet forward of the transom ,although this was the beryl engined version .

It was always designed to be where the fuel tank sits, although as has been said, that was when Beryl lived in there, the Opheus changed things, hence some lead ingots, but in summary, it's supposed to be where the fuel tank is!

Further to Steve's post, the fuel tank is immediately aft of the main spar.

Fred - just recalled that I asked Ernie Lazenby the same question on his very successful 1/6th scale model at the North East Boat Show in April. He pointed it out to me (see pic' below).

Oh heck, team mate Andy has just sprung his 1/24 Speedline K7 on me to build for him, when I'd long decided I didn't rate the kit much and wasn't going to bother with one. That'll teach me to have taken the piddle out of him for how much he paid for it!!!

Having seen what I believe to be a first class 1/24 die-cast scale model of Bluebird K7 on sale at the Coniston Heritage Centre I would very much like to purchase such a model, preferably direct from the 'Project' ... Is this likely to become a possible promo item in the future ?

I'd say it's unlikely in the near future. The project is running smoothly but we have no spare capacity to work on extra merchandise and such. It's a nice idea but as long as we can afford to buy the rivets we have to bash in during our limited time in the workshop we'll settle for that.

Having just cut out the meagre and vaguely K7-shaped parts of Andy's 1/24 scale kit I can now firmly say that I much prefer working with aluminium these days!
