Corporal Paul Evans Latest.

Postby Terminator » Sat Jan 01, 2011 2:39 pm

Hi Bill

The Corp is doing well as sadly last Saturday he was once again admitted to Hospital. Having remained in touch with his Good Lady this week as I have done for some years now, Dot informs me he is doing very well and hopefully he will be allowed once again to return home shortly. However I must stress Paul is to have Rest and nothing but Rest on his return as he is still very week from once again putting up one hell of a fight. The courage Paul has shown over the years is to be applauded because many would have just given up long ago. Paul has always been keen to talk to others regarding his 1966/67 exploits and never fails to amaze me by his memory and enthusiasm after all this time. But when I drop in and visit him I stay but a short time only, never longer than an 1Hr as although he is too polite as is Dot I never wish to outstay my welcome. Paul would continue on and on only to bare the brunt a day later by being totally exhausted and as in the past having to be taken back into Hospital! I On behalf of the Bluebird project wish him well as I'm sure we all do. Oh nearly forgot I did pass on your Good wishes by the way Bill regarding your inquiry the other evening as to how the Corp was doing. Happy New year to one and all.

Regards
Novie

Hi All,

I've just been informed that the 'Corp' has been admitted to his Hospice under sedation. Please keep him in your thoughts as he is not very good at the moment.

I will keep you informed as to how he is as and when I hear.

Regards to all, Fred

It is my sad duty to tell you all, that Paul 'CORP' Evans passed away a short time ago.

Paul had been admitted under sedation, into The Theresa's Hispice in Darlington earlier, but never regained consciousness.

Paul's wife Dot just phoned me with the sad news. I have already passed on condolences to Dot, on behalf of the group, and she will let me know of the arrangements, when they have been arranged.

Paul, for those who didn't know was Donald's radio communications officer during the last attempt at Coniston, and was therefore the last person to speak to him brfor making that fatefull last run. He had lived those last moments ever since, and only comparitively recent, has been able to talk about it. Perhaps now, like Leo Ken and Lew will find the answer to the questions he has been asking for all those years.

Rest easy my friend, rest easy.

Fred,

That is very sad news. At least Paul will no longer be in discomfort and pain. My sympathies to his family and friends.

Very shocking news, Fred, and sad indeed.

It is a great shame he didn't live to see K7 back on the water.

That's another one of the key folk associated with Donald's final effort gone - and so soon after Robin's Brown's passing, too.

A great pity, but none of these chaps can live forever - except as part of the legend that is Bluebird.

A dear friend passed away today which has left me devastated as Paul so often in the last few years frequently went in and out of Hospital. Last year Paul was rushed into Darlington Hospital having being administered the wrong treatment given the medication he was already on! Dot called and I rushed over to Darlington and even Paul's brother flew in thinking this was the end! Paul himself confessed to me at the bedside "I don't think I can beat it this time Norrie" as he used to call me. However as on so many occasions Paul battled through and I would like to think the little chat that we had back then to some degree helped him pull through . Having just spoken to Dot upon finishing work Paul "Corporal Evans" passed away peacefully but suddenly at 11am today. Even Dot said she was shocked by the suddenness of it all as we all expected him to pull through as he had so often done in the past. However it was not to be and yet another of Donald's team 0f 66/67 has been lost before we can get Bluebird rebuilt. I am deeply saddened by his passing as I will miss visiting him and having our little chats from time to time which kept me going through tough times. Paul was a wise old thing always seeing the other side of things and always able to bring a ray of sunshine into the most difficult of situations. Even as i write I cannot believe he has gone never to return. having known Paul for the past 15yrs it has still come as quite a shock today! Mark his son is returning from abroad hopefully on Friday and the funeral will be held sometime next week. I will see what Dot decides regrading arrangement's, cards etc and keep all informed in the next day or so. Yours sadly Novie

...and there was I on my own on the jetty in Coniston just the other morning playing the recording of the last run to myself on my phone and pondering things, too.

Indeed... sad to see him go. I'd really hoped he'd make it to see the old girl back in one piece and maybe shout of Ted over the radio for old times' sake but it'll not happen now.
We did ask the lottery failures to expedite our project so people like Paul and the Norris brothers could breathe old history back into new history, if you know what I mean, but that wasn't to be either so all we can do is keep on cracking on for those who will make it.
A sad day indeed... thoughts and prayers with Paul's family.

This is not put on as a public entertainment... it's put on to reach a certain goal.
