Final Paint Blend?

Final Paint Blend?

Postby Roger Wilco » Wed Jan 26, 2011 8:41 am

Apologies if I have missed this on another thread or the diary - but will K7 be finished in original paint or will it have to be 'as near as damn it'? I would imagine that the original K7 blue paint was a one-off blend and that the original supplier has gone the way of loose-leaf tea and Tony Curtis haircuts? Once again - apologies if I missed something and would welcome a pointer to any info on this subject.

Oh no, a 'Bluebird blue' thread! That'll be twenty quid for asking, please.

'Bluebird blue' was whatever shade of blue Donald was supplied with/could get ahold of each time- where the paint is peeling from the wreckage you can see many different layers, and there must be at least half a dozen totally different shades of blue to be seen. However, we've matched to the tailfin, which was only painted the once, and thus we have a perfect 66/67 'bluebird blue', so the old girl will look just as she did. Even then of course, they went and painted the rebuilt intakes a different shade...

The final pot of "Bluebird blue" was supplied by Horace and Syrene, Victoria Road, Burgess Hill, who were/are right opposite Norcon Norris (part of Norris Bros).

Up until about five years ago they still had one can (about a gallon I think) of the original left, with a brown and fading label on it with Leo's order details on it.

Possibly the exact colour is one of, if not the most frquently, asked questions.
How about only supplying the "final" answer by post to those asking, in return for a donation naturally !
Could just be in the form of a certificate indicating the RAL No. or even a sample pot.
Good website update by the way.

Colour of Bluebird

Postby tintin » Mon Aug 15, 2011 1:04 pm

Hi,
What was the exact colour of Bluebird? Does it have a paint code, or was it whatever was in the shed at the time?
cheers

And just to repeat what I posted some months ago

"The final pot of "Bluebird blue" was supplied by Horace and Syrene, Victoria Road, Burgess Hill, who were/are right opposite Norcon Norris (part of Norris Bros).

Horace and Syrene still trade, and have mixing records going back to Mulliners and Park Ward in 1926!!

While it's easy enough to work it out and it's not an out and out secret or anything, we like to regard K7 as a wily old lass who deserves to keep a mystery or two, so we don't go giving the paint code away. ;)
